Family Diner

This project is part of the Google UX Design Professional Course that I embarked at the beginning of 2022. The objective of the course was to learn the process and the working as a UX designer. I completed the course over a period of 6 months, and learned a great amount of knowledge on User testing, user usability studies, design wireframes, low and high fidelity prototype. From conceptualising till delivery.

Introduction

The project's goal was to design an app for a fictional Family Diner that provides take out and dine in service. I designed an app for that allows the users to easily order and pick up fresh and healthy meals.

What is Family Diner?

Family Diner is a local restaurant located in Singapore. Family Diners strive to provide wholesome meals for the family. They offer a wide range of health meals with affordable prices. Family Diner targets customers and families who lack the time and ability to prepare a proper family meal.

Challenge:

Customers do not have the time to prepare meals.

Solution:

Design an app that allows users to order healthy meals and pick them up at their time of their choice.

User Research

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was working adults and parents who don’t have time to cook and prepare meals.

This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Family Diner customers, but research also revealed that time was not the only factor limiting users from cooking at home. Other user problems included obligations, interests, or challenges that make it difficult to get groceries for cooking or go to restaurants in-person.

User Pain Point

Design • Test • Iterate

Taking the time to draft iterations for each screen of the app on paper ensured that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address user pain points. For the home screen,
I prioritised a quick and easy ordering process to help users save time.

Using the completed set of digital wireframes, I created a low-fidelity prototype. The primary user flow I connected was building and ordering a meal, so the prototype could be used in a usability study.

Take Away

Throughout the whole course, I learnt about the fundamental of UX design, and useful skills in helping me improve my skills as a design.

Every step of the process is important, as it is key in archiving success in the project.

Understanding how each process of the project bring a great impact on each decision as we progress in the project.

Overall, the course has been such a great eye opener to UX design.
